I don't know about ordering online - I would have concerns as well.

A few of my friends have said the best place to buy them are at shows & swap meets - the vendors give good discounts there.

They've been able to buy good pairs for around $85 - $95... whereas an HD brand will cost you $185 or more.

I also saw several features that I would have liked (but don't have)...

a). Some have snaps on the bottom, others do not. The snaps are ok, but they can be a pain to do up
b). My friend's chaps have a hidden zipper - a flap of leather goes over it - and they look very sleek (plus I think they protect from the weather a little better).

I bought chaps 2 weeks ago after I was riding to work in 50 degree good morning california weather. I was at first skeptical cuz of the village people look. Man those things are comfortable n keep me warm. Im ready for some winter riding now. Not serious CT kind though....hey I cry when its 50!

I went with the full leather pants slip over. They look better for guys who have the "white guy" syndrome, All back, no butt.. Just my .02 Add 2" to the waist and your good to go, they will stretch a bit. Chaps will also stretch, buy them tight on the leg, if not you will not like them. I've had both, however I prefer the pullover pant...

I thought it was some kinda law that you had to wear chaps when it's below 65 degees outside.
I wear pants under mine when the temps get below 60 degrees.
I also thought there was a law saying all real motorcycles were black.

Shows you what I know.

Real bikes have a kick start and open belt primary.

Never thought of the YMCA crowd and don't give a hoot about how I look in them except after riding in the ain and it looks like you've wet yourself, lol

My wife and I each have a pair of chaps and enjoy them a lot.
