Default rebuilding rear caliper, help!

not as much of a rebuild as an assembly issue. took apart the rear end to get the rear wheel painted, and I saw this little brown cylinder on the ground. After looking through the manual, looks like it might be something called the 'phenolic insulator' (however I could only find one). Looks like it fits into the piston on the rear caliper.

I cant seem to find any reference to this anywhere on the site. Anyone know what these are for, if they are necessary? I put the caliper back on and the brakes seemed to work just fine up on the jack.

manual also says its only available in rebuild kit, does anyone have a part number for the rear caliper rebuild kit?

Thanks!

Its to stop squeaking and vibration, you prolly won't miss it until the pads are nearly worn out.

interesting, so not having it wont effect the braking at all?

Should be fine, might squeak though, depending on the weather.

If you can find where it goes it is best to put it back though.

Maybe it is the rubber bumper that presses into the caliper bracket that rides on the swing arm bracket, definitely need that. Post a pic of it.There is nothing in the exploded view that fits into the pistons?

The pic in my manual is actually different from that one, but I've attached the pics of the part. Unfortunately, I've only found one of them.

Definitely not the rubber bumper. Is it plastic/phenolic, because it looks like it is metal in the picture? What year bike do you have, my '07 manual does not mention anything about phenolic insulator? I have never seen this on either the fixed or floating caliper? Road debris?
