Default Fuel Injections problems

I'm brand new around here and never been on a forum before, so bare with me.

Long story short. Last fall my wide glide started running like crap out of no where. After some research on here, cause I have no clue about EFI's, I figured out that I was throwing a front injector code (P0261). Found out that I had the old 8 degree injectors so changed them out for the 25's. Got the new download and all that. She ran great for about 15mi. and then started running like crap again (starved of fuel). There is no engine light at this time. Yesterday I took off my fuelpak to see if maybe that was the problem. It ran a little better, but then put that code out there again (P0261) as soon as I took off the Fuelpak.

In the middle of all this I have:

Replaced fuel filter
Put in Wick's submersable fuel lines
New crankshaft sensor
Checked all the fuses
Fuel pressure seems good cause it idles ok

It seems to only act this way when it goes in gear. I'm at a loss, so any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I know it doesn't seem to relate, but I would check the plugs. They maybe worn out. Also wouldn't hurt to check the plug wires.

Sounds like it may be a compensator.....Other wise it would do it when not in gear . Right ? Maybe I'm way off .

Did you get the stage 1 download from the dealer?

A loose battery connection can cause some crazy stuff. Check your connections.

Also, water where the ECM connects to the wiring harness will also cause erratic behavior. Did you notice any moisture in the connection when you removed the fuelpak?

05dyna88- thanks for mentioning the plugs and wires. I forgot to put that on my list of things I've done.

SC-longhair- No I didn't get the stage 1 download. The dealer said that because it was the injectors that they would do the upgrade for the 25's, plus they didn't charge me for it so i'm not complaining. Battery connections are good and all the ECM connectors are dry.

The compensator interests me. Last year I rode down to the Smokey's with some buddies. We were heading over to the Dragon on the Hellbender 28 and I missed a poorly marked turn and bounced off the side of a mountain a couple times. During the repair the dealer said that the primary case was cracked and needed replaced. I wonder if my accident didn't somehow mess with that assembly. I'll have to take a look at it.

Also has anyone ever heard of a fuelpak randomly changing numbers in the different modes? i.e. Mode 1 is 0 and for no reason Mode 1 will change to 2.

Forget about the compensator as that is a transmission part completely unrelated to the electronic system. Disregard that comment.

Like SC said you should always use dieelectric grease on electrical connections to minimize moisture related connection failures. However...

The Fuelpak should ALWAYS hold your settings and should NEVER change AND the 25 degree injectors DO NOT eliminate the need for a proper ECU map or download or Fuelpak etc.... So I would clean and tighten the battery connections, FuelPak connections and IF the problem STILL exists I would suspect a faulty Fuelpak. If the bike throws a code with the fuelpak installed still, I would try it without the fuelpak again to see if that remedies the code after you have checked the connections. Post results...

Yeah i would suspect somethings up with the fuel pack. But like others have stated, your electrical system can play havoc with many electrical components...

Oh and welcome to the forum, i'm very familar with greenfield, got a buddy who lives there and i work in richmond... Good luck and keep us posted!

Alright I cleaned battery connections and had no change.

Checked the connections on the fuelpak for moisture and didn't find any

Cleared the code and then rode it up and down the road a few times and the P0261 code came back. Cleared the code and hooked the Fuelpak back up. Took it back out again and the bike didn't shoot a code, it rode a little better but not much. Checked the modes on the fuelpak and they didn't change. Definately leaning towards a bad fuelpak, but I'm gonna have a bike shop just up the road to take a look at it for I go and drop money on a new fuel management system.

thanks for the help parts eeter. I'll have to go get some to that grease and put on there.

Shimmon- did your buddy go up around here. I might have heard his name. Seems to be a small world sometimes.

What year/model bike? The '06 - '07 (08 up?) bikes had a problem with the wires leading to the injectors breaking and causing an intermittent open. No matter what year I would check to make sure the injector connectors are tight and check for an open between the ECM connector and the injector connectors.
