A very good way to get a good feeling as to when to use 6th gear is to wear a pair of foam ear plugs and a helmet.....Then ride your bike and you will get a much better feel for the bikes gearing etc....Typically i find myself shifting to 6th at around 70 +mph....Taking the noise of the exhaust, wind etc out of the equation give's you a little better feel for the bike and what it wants....I like my bike to run "freed up" and not bogged down.Ive ridden from Florida to Jersey 3 or 4 times and have found that out on the interstate my superglide really settles in nicely between 75 and 80 mph in 6th gear for long runs, at 80 the bike is very smooth and the motor and tranny really seem to be matched up very nicely.

 

I haven't hit the rev limiter in 5th yet, when I do I will let you know. Really about 75 I will shift into 6th if the highway is straight and there is no traffic. I like to have more power available if I need it.

 

I wish they would put a tach on the street bob so a guy can see whats going on...I'm trying to break mine in and it is a pain trying to guess where a guy is at.

 

Usually on highways when I'm over 65 mph. I wish I could give you the rpm's but no tach on the FXD. Don't let the motor lag. You will get used to it and actually you will know when to change gears by the sound of the motor. Listen to what it's telling you.

Anywhere between 60-80! Depends on how hard I feel like twistin' the wick!

 

On a dyna just go by the vibrations in any gear; I seem to get more vibration in 6th gear running less than 65 mph. In just about any gear you can go too slow and feel it. I have no clue how many RPMS I am turning.

 

Flat long stretch 65....one up...if two up..I wait till 70-75 before really using 6th
