Are you sure you didnt mount the plate upside-down?
The only thing holding bags onto bike is the plastic locking device.
Bar should be solid across the top, with the locking tab swinging up from underneath.
Look at your original sketch on the plate, thats how it should be.
Might still be OK, but would make me nervous.

I would suggest getting some round stock and making a support that goes down the back of the back just to keep it from flopping around.
good job and i like the bags if you decide to sell em cheap let me know.

The braket bieng upside down works for me for now, I do plan on turning it over and using it the correct way. But I need to work on my lights ordeal first, that way the current turn/brake sig is not in the way of installing the bag, which it is now.
I also, plan on doing the double install setup so I can install the bag(s) and the sissy bar.
