Steel Wool, where have you been all my life? Holy crap! That stuff works great. I started steel wooling everything. The bike, the cat, the kids...you name it.

Thanks for the tips.

I just need to cough up a couple of steel fiber hairballs and I'll be good to go.

Well just ride and keep up with what you can. I have an 05 and live close to the ocean also
my 05 FXDLI is showing a few signs of corrosion. keep after what you can. Laced wheels are tough to keep after and so are those cad fasteners. I also am having an issue with forks
and minor pitting. It can be costly to replace parts but it may be all a part of maintenance and care. Hope I did not wander to far from the OP

After seeing the chrome on the '04 Road King Custom I owned for a minute, POWDER COATING is my solution to prevent the same happening to my ride. I much prefer riding to washing/polishing:
