It's pretty cheap to do some light refreshing, but I wouldn't go overboard considering you are more into riding than cleaning/maintaining. For example, some Col. Brassy does wonders on ugly chrome, and take-off mirrors can be had cheap. I'm just finishing up a '93 Fat Boy that was sitting around rusting for years, and it was a low cost deal that has come out really nice, but I put a LOT of sweat into it. I guess you have to figure out your own priorities concerning looks, money, and effort.

If you still like it..... Ride it ..... maybe Scothbrite and some WD-40. Helluva lot cheaper than what folks are paying for that look !!

OK...here's what I gleaned so far:
  • 0000 Steel Wool
  • Powdercoat
  • Replace
  • Ride it anyway
  • It's still $50,000 less than a comparable Exile
  • I am lazy
  • My bike is about to fall apart soon because I don't spend 4hrs a week polishing it
  • I may be an awful parent

Cool! Anything else?

You can temporarily improve its' appearance by scraping most of the rust off w/ steel wool, but the chrome has been damaged beyond repair. Unless you would be willing to care for it much better, there would be no sense at all in replacing the damaged pieces. You might as well just accept it the way it is.

ouch man thats some honesty there,

Welcome back Wiffleboy, too bad they tried to beat you up on your first thread back. I'd say if you like it shiny replace parts and get another 5 years out of them. Or have them parts powdercoated. Don't let um catch ya ridin dirty.
