Default Hole in Head pipe

Question for you about head pipes. I have an 02 FXDL and there is a hole in the head pipe before you get to the slip on muffler.

Will that affect the performance of the bike? Are they hard to uninstall and install? Where can I find good ones that won't break the bank.

holes in exhaust other then at the ends lol are never a good thing... look at ebay, theres tons of fair priced pipes for your year model bike... pipes are very easy to change... dont forget to get some new exhaust flange gaskets...

You're not referring to the crossover tubes ...? Were they cut off of your bike and left open to the atmosphere ...?

Not sure what a cross over pipe is not it wasn't cut off the hole is on the underside of what is number 23 near number 24 in the picture.

After I replace these do I need to have the bike re tuned?

If you do a direct replacement (same type), no tuning is needed.
You could also pickup some muffler repair tape at your local auto parts store for a cheap easy fix.

Red circles in diagram show the two parts of the crossover pipe that fit together to vent each exhaust header with the other to take advantage of scavenging effects ... one of the touted effects of a 2-into-1 exhaust ....

This improves lower RPM responsiveness by emphasizing low-end torque ....

The crossover fits together below the transmission cover on the stock pipes ... behind the front headpipe as illustrated above ....
