Default Fat Bob with 57338-08 HD windshield and MS Lowers

I just installed the 57338-08 QD clamp mounted windshield along with the Memphis Shades lowers. MUCH better coverage than my 16" Windvest but then it SHOULD be. I will switch back to the WindVest when the temps stay above 90 degrees here. I see that Harley makes a locking QD clamp #57400008 for $39.95. Has anyone else bought this locking clamp? Is it worth it? Does it have a security type screw that mounts it to the bracket on the windshield? From what I see of how the windshield mounts and the clamps are attached I can't see how effective the $40 locking clamp would be at stopping someone from taking off with my shield. Can someone chime in? Bueller? Bueller?

no, you use the existing allen fastener. I put one on my bike because its too easy to steal the windshield. But your right all they have to do is loosen the allen and your left with a locking clamp on your forks

That's what I was afraid of. Pay $40 for a clamp that will not be stolen.................. but the $350 windshield......GONE!

I'm thinking either a security screw or a small cable lock may be a better way to go for me.

I only use my windshield on over night rides. I use a zip tie around the flip up lever on the clamp.
Hey, can you post some additional info on the Memphis Shades lowers? May be a closer up pic and a part number?

Isn't the placement of the lower clamp in the travel path of the front forks?

Actually, that lower set of clamps for the Memphis shades lowers is above the point where the forks bottom out.

Are you getting any buffeting with that shield? I think the locking clamps are a bit like a padlock or locking your car doors.............keeps the honest people honest and/or protects against a target of opportunity, ie: someone not out planning to steal it meaning they aren't packing tools - if a "theif" wants something they are gonna get it no matter what it is.

++1 on the additional info. Also, what is the difference with and without the lowers. Is it a huge difference and worth it?

The Memphis Shades lowers consist of two parts. The plastic lower and the mounting brackets. I bought both from J&P Cycles.

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/750-272 $24.99 (MS part #MEP5810 CLEAR but they are available in many other colors)

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/530-588 $57.99 (MS part #MEM9899)

I went with clear as I didn't want the shield and lowers to be the FIRST thing you saw when looking at the bike. I rode to work yesterday (25 miles one way) with both the new windshield and the lowers. A big improvement over the WindVest. This morning I rode in without the lowers. BIG difference again. All that air that normally rides up my legs was back again and pushing against the underside of my half shell. The lowers are going back on again when I get home! The HD windshield WITH the MS lowers is the best combo and provides the quietest "bubble" with the least air turbulence. With both on I still do get a SLIGHT bit of buffeting near the top of my helmet. I am 6' and even ducking down a bit doesn't change that slight bit of buffet nor does leaning forward so I am not sure modifying the angle of the HD shield would accomplish much. Of course I have to remember that I am riding in 15-20 MPH winds which are crosswind to me much of the time. Is it as "smooth" in the cockpit as my past GoldWings? No, but then I don't expect it to be as I don't have all that friggin plastic fairing out in front and it's not a full dresser! BUT, for the money, minimalist look and ease of use....the combo does a damn good job and then some. For those of you with this windshield I highly recommend getting the Memphis Shades lowers. It makes a great combo. My only regret is in not having done this before winter!
