I have mid controls on my Low Rider and have no problems. In fact, I prefur them to forward controls. I keep my feet on the highway pegs most of the time, using my right heel to do breaking and my left heel to downshift. I have been doing it this way for 13 years, and it is now second nature. Oh,, I am 6' tall. If you like to sit with your feet on the mid pegs, I would look at a FXD or an FXDX, since it sits up higher and you will not be as cramped as on a FXDL.

With mid controls, you would probably get some cramping in your legs on long rides unless you have some highway pegs to relax with. I had them on an FXR many years ago and I'm 5' 10" and did feel uncomfortable with mids until I went to FWD controld and it was much better then. You always have the option of leaving the mid pegs on and taking off the brake and shift levers for an added foot rest when and if you got to fwd controls

Im 6 foot even with a 32 inch inseem and with the mid controls I felt like my knees were in my ears
and I got charlie horses (cramps) in my ***/hip area when on a long ride.
Put on forward HD controls and I can ride all day with no probs

Kuryakyn sells a 2" extention for forward controls if you are really cramped.

I ride using the same technique as SERB and just finished a 5600 mile trip with minimal problems. Having the mid pegs gives you an alternate foot position and lets you stretch for those long hauls. I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam. I'll probably be going to forward controls soon (along with a bunch of other stuff that I decided that I "needed" during my trip).

My dad and I switched bikes for a bit and he looked like he was riding a tricycle on my bike. He's 6'7" and hadn't figured out how to heel shift, so he was pretty much riding with his chin on his knees. On the other hand I looked like a dwarf on his Vulcan 2000. I couldn't even reach the cruising pegs on his crash bars.
