Default Tank lift question?

Im thinking bout doing a tank lift on my fxdf. My main concern is the fuel gauge, will it be off? And how do u like the final results?

Been thinkin about doin this myself, from what I've read your fuel gauge reading will be off, you can always just go by your odometer.

Not really an issue as others have said, mine actually made the gauge more accurate.

A tank lift looks cool. It also shows off more of your engine. Makes it easier to clean, and increase air-flow.

A lift will reduce your usable fuel capacity by 1/4-1/3 gallon.

The gas gauges on HD's are notoriously unreliable...better to always use the odometer, with or without a tank lift, to know when you're getting low.

If you have a low fuel warning light, that will come on sooner also, especially in sharp turns.

Before deciding on what size tank lift (1.5, 2, 2.5 or 3") make sure you have the clearance for whatever size you are wanting.

Here's a quick way to check for clearance issues-

1. With bike on kickstand, take the bolt out of the front of your tank.

2. Loosen (do not remove) the bolt at the rear of your tank.

3. Turn your handlebars all the way to the left and raise the tank up x.x inches to check for clearance issues.

4. Turn your handlebars all the way to the right and raise the tank up x.x inches to check for clearance issues.

2009 FXDB here, 2" lift. My gauge is off by about 1/4-1/8. However it shows LESS than what I actually have so its all good. Plus like others said, I go off odometer. Also what others have said watch your turn radius on your bars....test it like suggested.
