16" tire/wheel first ride impressions
Well I recently installed 16" wheels front and rear on my '08 street bob. I am running a 130/90 up front and a 180/65 in the rear both Metzeler ME880's. Anyway I finally got to ride a little over the weekend (only about 200 mi). If I had to sum it up in one word it would be SMOOTH. I thought in factory form it rode and handled pretty good but now I can't believe how smooth it feels. It seems to really stick to the road, it feels like I don't have to lean into turns or into a crosswind near as much. Also I used to get a wobble at anything above 85 mph and that is gone now, had it up to 115 and it was smooth as silk. I haven't really pushed it too hard through the turns as I'm still breaking in the tires, but I'm guessing its going to handle those well also. All in all I'm very pleased with the look and handling.
p.s. I used Counteract Balancing Beads in the tubes and I'm sure they help contribute to the smoothness.

I upgraded Metzelers 880 Marathons on my last 2 bikes, great sticky tires. cornering is smooth for sure.
Big difference on the wet roads too.
I got decent milage out of them. Price was right.
Big difference from stock tires.
I'm still on the stock Dunlops on this bike, next year for me.
Good choice.

I will check out your thread
{but also can you tell me where you bought the wheels, and everything else that was required to install them}
Later edit, oh ok I see you laced them in. I was hoping for cast wheels. Looks good though!
I wanted to install a Fat Bob rear wheel on my 07 Street Bob because I like the higher profile tire of the FB 16 inch wheel. But was told I would also need to switch axles and some other stuff.

RWB if you could find a wheel off an '07 fat bob it should bolt right in. I did some research before I did my swap and the both the fat bob and street bob use the same spacers and caliper, caliper mounts. An '08 and up would probably work with a bearing change. ('07's have 1" axles '08's-up have 25mm.)

Question for you
1. If you have time would you measure the distance across the diameter of your front 16 inch including the tire. I want to see what the difference is in the overall diameter of the 16 inch setup to the 19 inch setup of the SB. I can see that the FB tire has a much higher profile.
2. Did they even make a FB in 07 ? I can't seem to locate it in the parts Model list at Ronnies. They have 07 Fat Boys and 07 Street Bobs but no Fat Bobs. They do show up in 08.

The factory 19" tire should be 26.08" (this is by the numbers not actual measurement). The rear factory 17" should be 25.82". The 180/65-16 I am running in the rear is 25.2". The 130/90-16 I am running in the front is 25.2". The 180/70-16 should be 25.9". I couldn't tell you for sure about '07 fat bobs I thought they were out, but hey I've been wrong before. Also if you find an '08-up wheel it might take a little more work than just a bearing change. If I remember right 1" bearings are thicker than 25mm bearings. I still think it has been done though. You might try doing a search on an '08 wheel to '07 swap. There are a lot more knowledgeable people that could chime in with more details.
