Either will probably work, I measured the nipple when I had the hose off and it was .250 on the straight section so I used 1/4 ID fuel line.

FYI for future. The manual does say 5/16" but it is a 1/4". Just found out, it would have been a little easier with 1/4" I think, 5/16" was a little loose.

Yep, the book is wrong - it's 1/4" I put a QD fitting for next time, no more spilling gas.

Can you take a picture and tell me what you used for the QD fitting please?

it's one of THESE not cheap but it sure beats spilling gas all over everything. I used the 4 of the OEM clamps which you can crimp with a cv boot installation tool. One thing I did learn was to offset it as much to one side as possible, when its right in the center its a little difficult to separate because there's not much free hose to flex - by offsetting it, you can bend one side and it will come apart. Next time the tank comes off I will move it over.

Where did you find those clamps? Not to sound like an idiot, but the only place I could find them online wanted to sell me a 350 dollar kit.

I'd like to lengthen my crossover line an inch or two, but I really want to put permanent clamps back on.

At your HD dealer - p/n 10014 and all you need to crimp them is a cheap ( and I do mean CHEAP) cv boot pliers like these - should be able to find some local, Sears maybe.
