Default How do I change from double fire to single fire?

I think I have a bad coil on my 1989 FXRS. If I decide to try a single fire coil, what else do I have to change? There are only two terminals on my old coil, but I notice that there are three terminals on pictures of a single fire coil. How would I wire the new one?

Well, the first thing you need is an aftermarket ignition which allows you to switch over to single fire. Something along the lines of the Crane Hi-4 ignition. These also allow you to raise your rev limiter. If you already have an ignition, you just need your documentation to find out how to set it to single fire, then buy a single-fire coil. Again, something like the Crane Fireball single fire coil.

The additional lead which runs to the coil will come from the new ignition module. Basically you have one lead per spark plug and a common/ground if memory serves.
