Default Got burned on a seat at a swap meet

I was at the Syracuse Swap meet yesterday and saw a nce solo seat seat , my bike is an 02 FXD, buddy selling the seat says it will fit my bike, so i give him 40.00, i get home and find out the seat is for 06 and up, i live in Canada so returning the seat is not on option. Looks to be a stock solo for a Street bob.

What will i need to do to make this seat fit my bike, i am pretty handy with tools.

The rear part of the seat will fit onto your rear fender. The front tab's position does not match to your frame. To make it fit you'll have to cut off the mounting bracket on the neck, move it up front and re-weld (or bolt a home made bracket to the neck).

Here are some images from the actual dimensions on my FXD2003:

You may be able to just bend that front tab a little bit as well, you probably know better on the pre-05 Rene, but worth a shot before doing any cutting.

Personally, I'd eat the loss and look for a seat that fit properly.

Post it for sale in the classifieds or put it up on eBay. You'll be able to get that back or maybe even make a small profit.

The actual mounting bracket on the neck of the 2003 frame causes the 2006 seat to wobble and prevents a proper fitment of the 2006 seat.

I have encountered the same problems when I wanted to mount a 2006 Street Bob solo seat to my 2003FXD. Here are some images:

Notice the tab on the 2006 seat is vulcanized into the seat pan and a few inches up front compared to the FXDP solo seat I have on my bike now.

To the OP: Be careful when welding on the neck....it has the main harness running through it so prevent the heat is melting the isolation off the wiring! If altering the neck's mounting tab, you'd better bolt on a new one...

THX for all the replies, i have not tried the seat on my bike as of yet.Was just wondering what would need to be done to install it. From what was posted so far it seems the front tab is the issue, I will try to find a solution and when i do i will post my findings.

What if i were to move the front tab on the seat back to align, would this work
