Default FXDWG hand grip problem

I'm replacing my hand grips and on the throttle side I'm having a slight problem. I putting on the Black diamond grips on my 2010 FXDWG. When I twist the throttle a bump when I first start twisting but then its fine all the way to WOT. There is also a bump when twisting back right before you hit idle. It's almost like it's catching on something inside the housing.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be. I've took it off and put it back on a couple times. It's starting to aggravate me.

You've probably already gone thru this checklist, but here's what I would do: make sure the cables and ferrules are seated properly in their respective grooves, check/clean/lightly lube the handlebar end and throttle pipe (look for any burrs), and make sure the thumbscrew "cruise control" hanging underneath the throttle is backed out so that there is no binding. Good luck.

yea that cant bee good. last thing you want is a kink in the cable or something. best thing to do is take them completly off. then take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull on each cable. this is to find out which one it is, whether its the throttle or retun cable. if it doent do it when you pull on the cable then there is a problem in the slot where the grip goes on the switch housing. best thing to do is just take it back apart and looks for something like a burr on the grip or switch housing. i installed iso grips on my 11 and no issues.

might sound silly but is it at the other end of the throttle?

I have the same problem with Billet grips on my 10 WG... from what I can see, the throttle cable is not lined up perfectly and is hanging on the edge of the track the cable rides in when you open the throttle. That bump you feel is the cable snapping into the groove once the slack is taken out of the cable. It hasn't caused any issues for me and has gotten better with use. I still plan on swinging by my local indie shop and have them take a look at it this week.

Does it go away if you push the grip towards the housing and open the throttle?

Well I took it all apart and doubled checked to make sure there were no burrs on the hand grip and took the part that sits on top of the throttle screw out and made sure it set correctly. Put it all together and it works. I guess the 3rd time is the charm.

Thanks for the help.

damn, that makes me wanna take mine apart now and mess with it. my cruise still works like it should so I didn't think that was it. the "bump" wasn't consistent on my throttle... sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. oh well, to the garage i go...

Mine was in the same spot each time I twisted it, but it can't hurt to take another look at it. Good luck
