Warranty
#11
I don't think adding shocks would void anything.
My last bike I installed a complete exaust and new shocks before the 1000 mile service and had them do the stage 1 and never heard a thing about anything else.
I have a new old FXDB and have only 500 miles on it so far (bad winter) and installing new shocks this week. I plan to do new spings in the forks next week.
I had warranty work on the fuel gage last month as it was popping out and had already installed new Rush muffles and new seat.
Not a word about that either.
I think they are more worried about internal engine work upgrades.
Of course if you work on it and mess it up you really can't hold them responsible,
When I traded my last bike in they didn't like the fact that I installed sealer on the rocker gaskets. Hey I did it so it wouldn't leak again.
I purchased a three year plan but that would only be one extra but they said having the extra warranty would cover more that the regular warranty.
I hope I never need it.
I like to maintain and do my own work I have the proper work manual and do my homework.
If they want your continued buisness they will overlook the little stuff.
I have my 1000 mile service and went in and purchased the oil from them and it is record at 500 mile change.
I would like to do the oil changes myself, I can adjust the clutch easy enough.
Having a bike is my hobby and I feel paying someone $300.00 to change my oils is too much.
I have asked around and I was told that I could do my own oil chages but keep a record.
If you bought a new car you just keep a record of the oil changes for the warranty.

Mobil 1 V-Twin Synthetic 20W-50
Spectro Heavy Duty Primary Chaincase Oil
Spectro Heavy Duty Platinum 6-speed Transmission Oil
I can buy the Spectro products tomorrow at a mc shop just 2 miles from the house. I had them in my hands yesterday. I bought 5 quarts of the Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 at Auto Zone. I will put 3 quarts in the engine and keep the other 2 for my next oil change.
Thanks again neocontra for the answer to my question on the warranty.
Sorry for bringing up another sticky thread on oil. I just wanted to get the warranty issued clear. I called HD and if their service puts in Mobile 1. I have to sign that they did so.
I am going to my local Indy for my 1000 service.

I run the following in my bike
mobil 15w50 full synthetic -engine
mobil 4t 10w40 -primary
redline shockproof heavy -trans
You can put 20w50 in all holes but why??
I have used Spectro before and it's great. I would be using it right now had I not found some shockproof at napa for $8. Sounds like putting 20w50 in the engine, and spectro in the primary and trans is a good idea.

Next time someone tells you that something will void your warranty, tell them to put it in writing for you and see what they do.
Under the law, simply changing something will NOT void a manufacturers warranty. If however they can prove that what you did caused a problem, they do not have to cover any repairs. But, they have to prove it was the cause.
