Well, I've been riding motorcycles for a little over a year now. I absolutely love it...so much so that I bought my first Harley just recently (10 SB)

About 6 months ago I took a little spill on my old bike. Wet, windy road, going about 25. Real slippery, fish tailed out...got control of the slide but when I did I went off the road and dropped it into a grass hill. Couldn't have been better actually. No damage to me or my bike....

This kinda got me to thinking. They say 70% of accidents happen in the first year...Not sure if this is taboo to talk about or not...but I was wondering how many of you all have beat the odds....any good stories to share along these lines?

Ride safe my friends...Keep your head on a swivel

Can't remember how long I had been riding on the street, but I had a tractor trailer turn in front of me. I hit his fuel tank just under the door. Totaled the bike. Got a plate and 9 screws in my leg/ankle that are in to this day. Spent about 2 weeks in hospital and 3 months on crutches. Anyway, it made me a lot more observant rider as far as what could happen.

A lot of racing in the dirt has helped me with bike handling skills and I've been fortunate enough to have kept it rubber side down throughout my years on the street.

Layed one down once with minor damage to the bike and and some road rash on me.

I think statistics show most accidents happen with in a year of getting a new bike even if you have been riding for years.

agreed. But honestly the road was dry, but as I rounded the bend there was a
patch of wet creek slime type water that I wasn't expecting...Trees on all sides so I didn't really know what was coming....one of the thrills of riding in south america...

almost 10 years riding for me (the majority of it on crotch rockets). Had 2 mishaps, was run off the road (by an suv), while on the highway, in a pretty bad hailstorm on the way to the dogwood bike rally in KY back in 07 & was literally "bumped" by a douchebag in a conversion van who cut me off while I was turning then yelled at me for being in his way!

Fortunately, I was able to keep control both times & have never laid a bike down while moving. Sitting still is a different story.

ya'll heard about the aggie that heard that 70% of accidents happen within 25 miles of home...so he moved 40 miles to be safe.
