Sportster custom riser on FXD
Well winter is killing me up here in the great white north,I have a question, Has anybody installed the riser set up from a Sportster Custom on there Dyna, Would love to see pics of this install, as i am not sure if it will clear the tank, the speedo that is. I think this is the only good solution to moving the speedo out of the way, other than a Dakota digital that is not in my price range.

You can buy them from HD but they get expensive pretty quick. I have the part numbers somewhere but we just moved and not sure where they are. You can find complete set-ups on ebay all the time pretty cheap.

Speedo is the same size as stock FXD (4 inch), so you should be able to reuse yours and avoid that cost ... indicator lights should work, too I believe ....
For '04 and up
56017-04 HANDLEBAR RISER
55842-04 RISER COVER
3210A SCREW, SOCKET HEAD (4 EA - or reuse)
3666A SCREW (2 EA - to affix riser cover)
55844-04 INSTRUMENT HOUSING
Cost around $260 - 280 from an online HD parts discount source ....
For '03 and earlier
56192-01 RISER ASSY, H-BAR
68030-96 RISER COVER
56074-96 HANDLEBAR CLAMP, UPP
46991-99 ELECTRICAL MOUNT PAN
67084-96 SPEEDOMETER MTG BRAC
67088-96 SPEEDOMETER COVER, B
3210A SCREW, SOCKET HEAD (4 EA - or reuse)
3923 SCREW, TORX RECESS (4 EA)
6702 WASHER (4 EA)
This is slightly more expensive of the two options ... costing somewhere around $300 if bought new from an online HD discount parts source ....

You will notice the photos posted by BBerck both show the setup on '06 and later FXD with 49mm forks and the headlight mounted on the lower triple tree ... (the MoCo discontinued use of the visor mounted headlight on Dynas as of '05) ....
If you are relocating the headlight from the 'eyebrow' (visor) to the lower triple tree ... which is quite easy to do: simply remove the front wheel and fender and drill a hole in the lower triple tree, then bolt on a relatively inexpensive 5-1/4" headlight ... I would recommend using the upper triple tree cover (number 29 in the diagram) to close in the gap where the visor used to be ....
67861-96 TRIPLE CLAMP COVER (item 28 in the '03 Diagram)
around $30-40 ....

I had been thinking of going this route with my '05 FXD ... had actually moved the headlight to my lower triple tree ....
I always thought this was an elegant solution to moving the speedometer out from in front of the riser ....
While mulling this over, I simultaneously had been considering converting my narrow glide front end to a Fat Boy (FLST Softail ... which I ended up doing) ....
Before I pulled the trigger on the risers, I changed my tack, and just decided to do a tank swap to a Low Rider tank and convert to a Street Bob console-mounted speedometer setup ....
A couple of factors in my decision ... I had already exchanged out my handlebars with the Street Bob / old Wide Glided style mini-apehangers ... and my personal opinion is that apes do not look good with pull-back risers ... so, in my book, the '04-later risers were out ....
I also wasn't sure the riser setup would look right with the beefier Fat Boy front end ....
Good luck with the conversion ... and finding a good deal on the parts ....
