Sorry Clayman, I didn't intend to get on a sop box. But I was of the understanding that your noise was because of possible bearing failure and the discussion had moved on to what may have caused the bearing failure, and when it got to the possible causes may have been oil? Well, that happens to be a passion of mine. Anyway most people here change oil well before the HD recomended time so oil type failures are rare indeed.

ORIGINAL: clayman

I went out on a ride on sunday and started hearing a noise from the primary, was wondering if you guys could help me figure it out. I was getting reafy to leave when i heard this scratching or rubbing sound from the primary, i rode a little ways and heard it faintly as i was riding, i pulled over and it was deffinatly there. As i reved the bike the noise folled the rpms and was coming from the primary. I am now concerned after reading all the posts of bearing failure. What kind of noises were you guys hearing that have had bearings go beforethey actually went. Thanks for any input.

Thats ok Ameristo, i was kinda looking for feedback from people that have had the bearing done or know for sure that they need it done. I would like to here what others heard befroe theres went, as for me there is no whinning at all, just the rubbing sound i described. I am a boat ride away which costs me a $100 every trip to go see the dealer so i like to get all the information i can before i head over and then i have the issue of once i am there i now have no bike and no way home. So if anybody else has some more info for me that would be greatly apreciated. Thanks
