New tank - bottom spigots bent
Hi guys,
I bought a newly painted FXDB tank on ebay. I got a good deal but when it arrive the box must have been dropped since the spigots on the bottom of the tank are bent. It was packed fairly well but looks like those spigots were not able to take the wieght of the full tank being dropped (obviously!)
Im not sure what to do--I could easily bend the spigots back into place but im worried about causing a stress fracture that wont show up until i put gas in the tank. I dont want to invest any more time in this tank (have to buy all the electrics for a FXD to FXDB conversion) if it turns out to be a dud.
Whats the risks of bending the spigots back? Cheers.

You should be able to bend them back fairly easily....The tank will not be under great pressure and you should not have any problems. Just take it easy when you bend them back so as not to kink them so the flow of gas will not be impeded.....If you are worried about leaks just pressure test the tank prior to using it.....

Your concerns are valid.. I would contact seller or shipper and see if you can get another one or insurance $$.. If those pressure test ok and you install it, and have a later failure due to harmonics it could very easily cause a fire.
Thats a crappy design on HD part, I dunno why they dont install quick connects like the main fuel line up inside the channel. But they been doing it for many years and surely will continue to do so.
Good luck....

I think it might depend on how you end up trying to correct the problem ....
If you attempt to pull out the joint where the tube connects to the bottom of the tank or the surrounding area, it could cause a fracture to the weld/crack the connecting material in the bottom of the tank ....
On the other hand, if you are careful to just bend the tube itself to an angle which is usable, I think the risk of any damage caused by you would be minimal ... in that case, the residual risk would be that there was damage to the joint when they were originally pushed in ....
My thoughts on the subject FWIW ....
Sux that the condition wasn't better when you received it ... hope you can figure out a way to salvage it or that you can be made whole ....
