I've owned Harleys since the 70s, when they came on Goodyears. I find I always end up with Avons and haven't tried any other brand for several years now. I had a bad experience with a set of Metzelers before that and haven't tried the later ones. Venoms on both my Glide and Dyna. It's the only way to travel!

Anyone have pros or cons on the Avon Cobras? Paul S, is the Cobras "like riding on rails" a good thing or bad?

It's good! I haven't tried Cobras, but Avon have been innovative for many years in the design and construction of their tyres. The ride is very stable (hence the reference to rails!), with excellent cornering grip and handling, plus good comfort. And they are great in the wet.

Toast,
I have ME880's on my bob to replace the stock Dunlops. I would say the Metzlers are great. I looked into Avon's, but my Indy and I could not find the 17" rear at a 160. Didnt really wanna go up to the 180. Metzlers stick like glue though, and run very smooth. Good luck

Avon Storm II Ultra comes in a 160-17, is a dual compound and fairly wide @ 166 mm. Next time you need tires you might check it out. I don't think it sticks quite as good as my Night Dragon did, but I have not really had a chance to put it to the test in warm dry weather yet.
