Wiring Boom Audio Handlebar speakers on a 1999 FXDX
Got a set of the new Boom Audio handlebar speakers for my 99 FXDX. Got the speakers, amp & hand controls mounted but confused about the wiring. The instructions say to splice the orange and white wire from the speakers to the orange and white wire in the main harness near the rear lighting connector. I am confused if this is the harness under the seat or the harness under the head light.
It also says to locate the B + connector on the main harness under the seat (a red wire with an unused gray connector) and to mate the red wire from the speaker to the wire harness assembly. I have looked all around the main harness but cannot see an unused gray connector anywhere.
I have the service manual but the wiring diagram is not helping. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I just finished hooking up the speakers. I figured out the wiring and got it working like a charm. The speakers sound good but you do have to mess with the placement a bit to get the right sound for your set up. I wish they had a bit more bass response but what can you expect for a 3" speaker. I have heard the Kuryakyn speakers and they have less bass than these. I can provide pics if anyone is interested.

help, harley boom audio
Cmat, I'm also interested in how you wired the o/w wires up as well. Did you actually cut the bike harness O/W wire? any pictures would help. did you use the in-line fuse. is there any reason why you cant tie the white wire from the amp and the o/w wire from the vol control to the bike harness O/W wire. then just tie the amp Red wire to one end of the fuse wire and then the fuse wire to the battery terminal. Then the black wire from the amp to a chasis ground. This is assuming you can't find the elusive red wire with the grey cover on your bike's wiring harness. This way you won't even use their adapter wire in the kit right? any help would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail me pics at rougue66@yahoo.com if you still have some. Thanks so much in advance Cmat.

Did you ever manage to get the speakers set up. I am at the same point of the install as you described. Speakers and amp mounted, ready to wire and I'm confused. I have a 2011 RKC. I've never spliced wires on a bike and as you stated, it seem like they want you to cut the O/W wire from the rear light assembly which makes me very nervous.

i am in the process of installing my boom audio, there are 3 wires, black for ground, red goes to a positive and the orange/white is for power as well , the orange/white wire is for the light in the volume control, wiring to the taillight is ok and would allow the system to power on when the key is turned on and turn off power when key is off, good idea to wire this way so one does not forget to turn system off

Hey everyone, go see this post: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/audio...ml#post9641339
It has links to the new H-D wiring with a relay so it does not drain the battery. The orange/white wire in the rear harness to the tali lights is the correct wire. I just installed this on a 2008 RKC.
