Default ness big sucker or screaming eagle??

I need a little help, I cant make up my mind between a arlen ness big sucker intake or the screaming eagle (the 90 deg with exposed filter). Input would be great, pro's or cons. The bike is a 99 fxdx with v&h short shots if it matters. Thanks and merry Christmas.

They both flow more air than is necessary. I like the Billet Sucker from Ness, which comes in your choice of cover. With this style, MANY covers are available from a wide variety of vendors even in custom finishes. With the HD giant mushroom, there's fewer to choose from.

My personal opinion... is that the "mushroom head" intakes that mount right on the throttle body/carb, do nothing for low end torque. At least the heavy breather has something akin to a longer runner.

I didn't think it was long enough runner... I made my own. I like my accessories to actually be functional and not just "ooo... here's the latest bling from <big name vendor> that adds no appreciable performance". So.. a little longer runner = better bottom end torque, but enough cross section to not starve it at the top. My result after retuning the bike (I run a TTS), is that I can run @60mph in 6th and as long as the hill isn't real steep... (probably ~ 4-5degree), it will power right on over without feeling like it's lugging. I haven't dyno tuned it at all, but from the results I got, I perceive a small increase in bottom end torque.

It's whatever you want your bike to do.....

it's simply a matter of preference and fashion. They both stop debris from entering the intake system, they both flow enough air to not choke out your setup and they both cost about the same. Whichever one makes you boat float with the looks is the best one. personally I like and use the Ness. The cone filter stuff looks like honda civic ricerish to me

I had an arlen ness big sucker intake on mine for a while, then came accross a 90* intake with a K&N filter on it for $20... and made an adapter bracket for it. The 90* intake has a noticable increase in preformance.
