This is the case with just about any wet clutch bike. The same thing if you try to push a motocross bike with the bike in gear and the clutch in or start it that way. Putting them in neutral releases them completely. Your bike is perfectly fine.

Are ya sure you had it in reverse? Were the reverse lights on?

Definitely not a stupid question. I just noticed the same thing a couple weeks ago and was thinking I might need to adjust the clutch!
