Default SE103 with cams

so im thinking of having my dealer put on the se103 kit stage 2 but swapping cams. i would like to put in the woods 555 cam but not sure if this would be good setup. other options is the 106 S&S kit or the Fuel Moto 107 kit. just trying to be sensible about how much money im spending on my bike...... yeah right. plan to do head work down the road. but for right now i want a cam to give good sound and performance. looking to get about 100 ft lbs torque.... any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

If I had to guess, there are going to be varying opinions on which engine upgrade option to go with. For me, I went all out. A good friend of mine is a HD Master Mechanic, so we dreamed up a still reliable but kick in the pants engine setup.

When everything was said and done, he ended up installing the SE Pro Stage III kit, MCR heads, and a 50mm throttle body. Holy crap. The 259 cam is a little rough if you are driving around at wagon train speeds, but allows plenty of POW when you need it. Did not think I could build a Dyna engine that would pop a wheelie going into 3rd gear with 16 inch ape hangers.

Bottom line: cams + heads....more air = what you ultimately want. Just be careful not to be over-the-top agressive with the cams unless you are going to upgrade the heads or swap them out.

All I can tell you is what I decided on for a good performance/price ratio:

I already had the pipes and tuner.

I had Dewey's (http://deweysheads.com/HDBD_home.html ) do my heads and cylinders (103 c.i.) ($625 for 06 and up motors). And I purchased woods tw-555 cams from him at the best price I have found anywhere ($357).

I told Don (the guy at Dewey's) that my target was just under 110 for Tq & Hp, so that I don't have to beef up other more expensive items. He said with this setup I should do that easily.

I am doing the mechanic work in january and doing the dyno tune in early Feb. So no final numbers yet.

The bottom line is just what was said above. The key is air. The more air you can move, the more fuel you can cram in it.

Steve
