One-off custom battery cover
#21
Well, I lost the battery cover and since I am having my saddlebags and fairing painted, I decided it would be an opportune time to make another one so I could get it painted to color-match ...
A couple of days after I lost it, I went back to search alongside the stretch of highway where I lost it ... searched around for over an hour but no joy ... however, I did find someone else's battery cover they lost in almost the same place ... it was a chrome, vented battery cover with the H-D eagle affixed to the side ... I found the brass eagle medalion first and glanced around and spotted the cover ...
I decided it wouldn't work ... but, I used it as a part of the new cover I just fabricated this evening by adding another shovelhead battery box like the one above in this thread ... I got it from J&P Cycles P/N 3500070 ribbed battery cover for $29.99 ...
To make the cover, I first had to cut the sides of the vented cover down a little 1/2" or so ... then, I cut off the sides leaving only about 1/2" on the shovelhead cover ... I am using the vented cover upside down and positioned it inside the shovelhead cover with about 3/8" extending out of the top so the extended portion will be secured under the top battery cover ...
Here are a few photos ...
So tomorrow I hope to have everything painted and my new, replacement shovelhead battery cover ready to go ...
