Went to the painter's today. Took some pics. I keep adding to his jobs so I don't know when it'll be painted. I decided on the Street Glide look. Oops, I forgot to take a front end pic. Here's a pic that he took of the process and two I took today. Bike's on a stand and the shocks are loose so it mite look high in the pics.

I already bought a '09 SG fender (complete w/ tail-light, lower light & bag fairing, turn-signals & lit plate holder) which I will modify to move all the lightsdown & back from between '09 police hardbags which are going on my Super Glide. That will make room for a vintage Tour-Pak which I'll modify to integrate w/ the rest. It'll look like a Street Glide, from behind. Not sure how to deal w/ the wider fender, yet.

 

A little grinding on the inside of the struts where the rear bolt goes through and it will fit, it's snug but it will go in nicely.

Nothing turned up on my forum search, but it sounds like you guys have done/seen this done before.

A few days ago I ran across a photo showing a Dyna frame which had had its' fender struts widened to accept a RK fender. Not sure I'd want to cut/weld on the frame/struts, but it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to just "spread" the struts a tiny bit @ the back, where the wider fender doesn't want to flex inward (w/o dramatically changing the look of what is left exposed).

On my project, the modified Tour-Pak will hide most of the fender in the strut area, behind a new solo seat, so slight inconsistencies will not show. I even thought to simply leave the stock fender in place, and use only that part of the SG fender which will be visible beneath the Pak. This facilitates seat mounting, but besides adding weight, this would leave only the aft strut holes & hardbag support frames to take all the load, while making little structural contribution, w/ the fender loosing much of its' inherent stiffness. Then there is the small issue of the SG fender ending much higher, in front, where the stock fender ends rather low, offering greater protection.

 

lo-rider, I had my struts cut and widened. I needed room for the 6in Fat Boy wheel and 200 tire. ackman did some grinding on the struts. He spliced the front of the stock rear to the new wider back fender. I followed his lead and recommendation and got an '09 RK fender and did the same. But I had to pay someone to do the graft work.
