Default Throttle cable broke but I'm confuzed....there are two cables...why

2000 Superglide....My throttle cable broke out on the road and I thought i was broke down.....but then for the first time, I realized there are two cables attached to my throttle....the bike made it home fine but I dont know why my Mikuni Carbed bike has two throttle cables....I am too cold and buzzzed to get the flashlight out to see what the second cable connects to......Two throttle cables going to one carb, WHY????......and why dont i notice a difference in how my bike runs with one of the cables broken????

There are two cables because one of them is to open the throttle and one of them is to close the throttle in case the spring return doesn't work. It's a safety factor so get it fixed asap.

The bike will be just fine with the main throttle cable, the other is,as posted above a safety cable.

I have a TON of buddies that just run a single pull... it is really up to you if you want to run the other one or not

Default Onl; 1 cable needed

As mentioned, you only need one cable, been running that way for years without a single problem.

+3 on dumping the idler cable. Looks better with just one. Been running like this for a year now and no problems. If the return spring were to ever break you should always have positive control of your throttle anyways and use your hand to roll it forward.

I'd leave the return cable....if the main cable breaks somewhere inconvienient, the return cable can be engineered to get you home....
