Dyna Vibration problem
#12
From what I been through with 3 different Dealers with my motor vibration problem, they wont check the crank run out under Warranty. HD now has such a high crank run out number no matter how bad it vibes it wont get to that number to get it fixed under Warranty. I have been fighting for a crank run out check all Summer but I will have to pay for it, and that's not going to happen... Good luck.

do you have a tach?
does it do it at certain speed or certain rpm?
do you feel it mostly in feet or hands or butt or everywhere?
can you see clearly out of mirrors at highway speed?
is it worst immidiatly after you shift or right before you shift to next gear?
what speeds are you shifting?

Yes that's a good point, mine has a very harsh vibration with the rpm and it dose it in all 6 gears. Yours must have something to do with the gears them self's, or how about the compensator? Hope you van get your vibe problem worked out...Good luck.

2010 dyna with the same problem and i no this much its not tire balancing and im fearing the worst my bike just hit seven thousand miles and it feels like crank balancing or main shaft bent it defiantly a factory defect ive been riding harleys my whole life and its internal the vibration gets worse and ive change both isolators and no differance shim the front one same thing havent taken to the dealer but if they tell me keep at the speed limit ill drive it through the front window and buy a vespa

Just curious. Have you ridden other Dynas besides that one to be sure the problem is limited to your particular bike? I ask because I rode a new Dyna Fat Bob the other day and couldn't believe the amount of vibration after being used to my Road Glide. It felt nice and smooth at 70 mph on the Interstate but I couldn't see in the mirrors and if I varied the rpm at all I could feel it in my hands and feet. Around town, at certain rpm it was like riding a washing machine. Nothing wrong with the bike. Just the nature of the beast.

I'll narrow this down for you but you have to listen.
1. It's not the crank if it was you'd be complaining about 1-2-3 acceleration as that's where you're in the highest RPMs.
2. You're in too low of a gear for the speed you're at in 4-5-6. If you downshifted and held it higher it will smooth out.
3. Sit still in you're driveway on neutral with the bike warmed up and idling. Slowly increase the RPMs slowly giving it throttle. You'll feel that vibration you're complaining about come on strong then fade as you pass it in the RPMs. Listen to the engine and when you're riding you'll learn to avoid it and downshift before you're that low.
4. You don't have a tach on that bike, I'm willing to bet that it's in the 1900-2100 range. If you have access to a digital tach you can verify it. If you avoid this range you'll be fine. Most Dyna riders cruise at much higher RPMs.
5. Go ride and avoid that RPM for cruising and you'll be fine.
