I have turned to machinists, in the past, to get thigns to work. Basically, you probably could have had the axle milled to work, but it sounds like you found another way.

Fabbing a DYNA is what is required when doing an FLH conversion!

Sorry for the crappy photos....but we have snow now, and it was about 15-20 degrees out.
