Default drive belt question

Just found this on my 98 Dyna. Should I leave it alone or try to get it out? Or do I need to get a new belt?

Thanks for the help,

What exactly is it?

I would run it, check it often and watch for possible failure.

Cant really tell in the pic what it is, but if there is something stuck in your belt it is likely that it is also doing harm to your pulleys as well, so i would give them a look too!! JMO if the belt has any significant damage change it or it will leave you on the side of the road, "wouldnt ride on a bike with a chain with a cracked or damaged links or teeth missing on the sprokets either"

If the belt on the '98 is the same size used on the '00, you can have the belt I took off years ago when I switched to a chain. If you're interested let me know. I think it is in mint condition.

Not sure what it is. I have checked the rear sprocket and cant see any damage. What ever it is it is completely embedded in the belt. I cant see any thing sticking out on the inside of the belt. I asked a couple people around here what to do and one said leave it alone and keep checking it. The other said dig it out and keep checking it. What do you guys think?

Wow thanks for the offer! I appreciate it. Not sure if it will work or not. This is my first Harley and I love it! This is also the first problem I have had. Riding weather is gone around here now so I do have some time to deal with it. Heres a picture of the bike also.

I'm a big believer in preventive maintenance so I would recommend replacing it. Question... What usually happens when something needs to be fixed and you think you can get a little more out of it? Answer... It usually costs more in the end! lol!
