As usual we get going on these post and not really knowing what we are comparing since (Harley) Dunlop, Metzler, Avon, Michelin,ect... have numerous grades of each. My 16k is on a performance Dunlop and I plan on dropping back to the standard. How do you tell when its really worn out, just by the connectors in the bottom of tread? I know at 16K I have a big enough flat that in turns I can fill it go across it I think? Shame there's not a camber adjustment on a Harley. There's two more lifes in my rear tire. Also what's strange is the dealer put this performance tire on the back and there is not a matching number one for the front on a Deuce.

Rear I only average about 5000 and the front I change at 15000 no matter how much tread is left. It depends on alot of different factors, rider, road conditions, air pressure, brand of tire and compound choice. Motor work becomes a big factor also, high torque will definitely put a beating on tread life.

You should get at least 10k out of the factory rears and a little more on the front. It really does depend on the type of rider you are and the conditions you ride in.I used to by new tires every year for my 68 Camaro. I didn't put a lot of miles on her but for some reason they would wear out pretty quick.
