Default Difference between 80493-07 and 80678-08 SE slipons?

Sometimes the big book seems intentionally vague to me. The 80493-07 SE slipon says it's 49 state and fits certain 07, 08 and 09 Dynas-and is $299.00. The 80678-08 slipon says it's 50 state and fits certain '10-later Dynas-and it's $374.00.

Question is, will the cheaper (and probably less restrictive) 80493-07 49 state slipon fit an '11 Super Glide?

I'm not too worried about what the EPA or the Moco thinks if it'll work just fine.

Anybody know, and are there any other differences between the two?

This page explains each part number. You'll need the 80678-08 for your '11 Super Glide.

The 1st is EPA quiet and the next is EPA quiet and emission friendly as it has catalyst too.

Are you sure about the catalyst thing? I only ask because I'd noticed that Harley clearly states in the bold type on some of their slipons that they are "catalyst" mufflers, but not on these.

Plus, and I'm just repeating what I was told, a tech guy for one of the exhaust biggies told me the Super Glide was one of several Dynas that had no catalyst anywhere; he said that some Dynas were grandfathered in because they were existing models in '06. He went on to say that all the touring models had them now.

I still notice a lot of differing opinions on what does and what does not currently have cats.

When people say 'catalyst' I think of the California only (CARB) system that is somewhat F'ed up. I don't completely understand the CARB required 'catalyst' system and -- I really don't want to.

Now, "Catalytic Converters" from what I understand are a whole different ball game from the CARB mandated 'catalyst' system.

Did the MoCo change the header diameter, mounting system, or something in 2010/11 that would not allow the one exhaust to fit, or is the MoCo just being EPA compliant?

Anything is possible, I guess but somebody just bought a V&H slip on (I think it was slip-ons, maybe not) and he was having a bit of a little problem, called V&H and they said it was the same part # for all dynas '06 and up. I think. So if V&H slip ons fit, why wouldn't Harley's?

Ya know, at one time the EPA was a useful and necessary organization. They've gotten out of control. One these days soon, we'll all be riding water-cooled Harleys with a GPS implant shoved up our butts so the EPA can tell when/if we're speeding and where we are. They've already got, not on drawing boards -- Got, systems that will report to the EPA if you change anything pollution-wise on your car. The gubmint just needs to implement it.

Pretty sure the 10's have catalyst, when I drilled out the baffles the back of the catalyst was about 5-6" forward of the baffle plug..................

Just remember: The use of unauthorized or non EPA, FDIC, USMC, CIA, NSA, FBI, NASA, ACORN approved exhaust systems on your Harley Davidson motorcycle can cause serious injury or DEATH and then subsequently void your factory warranty TWICE.

Since altering those mufflers is a Federal crime I think you meant to say: " When I drilled out the factory fasteners to add STRONGER fasteners on my catalyst mufflers...I noticed the back of the catalyst was about 5-6" forward of the baffle plug."

funny how that works isnt it, since the dealer put V&H with no baffles or catalyst on mine before I bought it
