For those with ricor rear shocks
#21
i will have to check my sag later tonight
I just got done riding and i thought i would try something with the shocks.
I had them set at 9 turns and I cranked them down to 14 full turns from top. The bike imediately felt better. It sat more straight up in the back. it felt better in the turns and cresting hills, but i was on a smooth road. I then headed for a road i knew was choppy and rough. It felt better and smoother, actually a lot better.
This is the opposite of what i expected. I would have expected it to be better in the turns but harder on choppy roads. I guess the spring is absorbing more and not relying as much on the dampening. Hell i don't know, but I was very happy with the way it felt.
I will check sag later tonight and post it. Is sag the difference between the tire being off the ground and then with my wieght on it. Or is it my wieght on it compared to tire on ground with the wieght of bike? And i measure from swing arm to a fixed spot on the fender strut?

Sag is basically the difference between the suspension being fully extended, like up on a jack with no weight on the rear and then on the ground with all your riding weight. There are a couple methods posted on how to measure it, its easier with someone to help. Some measure the eye to eye on the shock, others measure the axle bolt/swing arm straight up to fender strut, which seems easier to do. Report the way you took the measurement and the experts should be able to sort it out. It doesn't seem to be unusual for some riders to fiddle for weeks before they find just the right setting while others hit it right off.

1" sounds like a good number to me. You measured the correct place. Depending on Rider preference you can try setting your sag between 3/4 and 1-1/2".

just an update:
i have been riding the shocks on the new setting for a few days now and a few trips downtown and I am very happy with the ride. Still alittle confused on how a stiffer spings made it more comfortable ,since it wasn't bottoming out before, but i guess it doesn't matter.
very happy with the shocks at this point
Oh, also at this setting it rides good solo and with passenger.
