Default New Motor started hearing noise in cam chest

I cranked the motor over a few times with plugs out it sounded okay, now I started the motor and hearing noise in teh cam chest, just loud noise like a noisy top end. I shut it down after a few seconds, if I did anything wrong how long would it take to show up, could it be just oil not circulating there yet?

Define "shutting it down after a few seconds"... how many seconds? From what I've read, a bit of top end noise isn't outrageous until the oil gets to flowing and up to temperature if you're running the stock hydraulic lifters.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, it is me turning the motor off after 30 seconds. Seen a little white smoke from exhaust but suspect this is new machine oil burning off the heads and pipes.

How long should it take to get the oil pressure light to go out on a dry motor?

OK. guessing here you have built your motor up. bored cams etc.

you want the oil pressure up *before* you fire it off initially.
