Default Grip Tape Instead of Glue?

Has anybody used this grip install tape? Any feedback and info on where to get it seperately?

Yeah, it came with my grips and sucked. I ended up ditching it and using the glue.

I only use hair spray or brake cleaner. Quick squirt into the grip and slide it on. It takes just a few minutes to dry.

Yeah, it came with my grips and worked perfect. But I hate the Avon grips, plan to switch to something else but would love to use Grip Tape on the new grips.

Which Avon grips do you have, and why do you hate them?

+1 on the hairspray! AquaNet Extra Hold! Back when I used to work in a bicycle shop, that's all we used for MTN and BMX grips.

The Air Cushioned grips. They do not work well with Wild 1 Chubby bars and suspect they wont work well with other 1 1/4" bars. There is no sleeve inside the left grip, it's just floppy thin rubber with cheap end caps glued on. The grips are longer than stock and are longer that the bar ends (part that sticks out past the controls) so the cheap rubber grip hangs off the bars by 3/4" and just flops around.

If you have 1 1/4" bars that limit the placement of your controls you better measure the bar ends compared to the grips or you will end up with these cheezy condom grips flopping in the wind.

I hate these grips and hate wasting $.

I am currently running Kuryakyn grips because I have to have a anti vibe setup for my hands. I love these grips, however I hate tossing a set of grips with a bar switchout and these I have glued to the clutch side.
When I installed them I only ran 2 lines of glue instead of slopping glue all over the bar. Kury does sell grips seperately and I could just get one from them,so I can save a few bux on a handlebar install. I think Kury now makes these ISO grips in black so I may go that route.

Thanks for the heads up on the AVON grips not fitting stepped 1.25 bars as I was considering them. Any line on where to get this tape seperately? Is the hairspray method that you guys use permanent? Can the grip be removed for a bar switchout later? Any slippage in heavy rain? I learn something new everyday here. Thanks guys!

I tried grip tape that you use on golf grips one time and it didn't turn out very well. On the golf clubs you lube the tape with lighter fluid but it never dried out on the motorcycle. It might work with water the way those instructions read but since there are already a bunch of known good ways to secure grips I don't think I'd experiment again with golf grip tape.
