Default Oil burner?

I have a 2001 dyna low rider carbed 17 k mi.
The bike seems to be burning oil 1 + quarts in 2 k mi. (dino oil)
The exhaust is black inside the ends,i'm just wondering where to start looking for problems.
Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest starting with a leak down test. That might tell you if the problem is the rings or the valves. Then from there, more tests can be done. That sound right, everybody?

Pull the plugs, an oil burner plugs will be black with a wet look to them. Overly rich will be dry and black. Is this something you discovered after you changed oil or somebody else? Realize you said 2k miles, just wondering if the correct amount and viscosity was used.

I just pulled the plugs & they are the perfect tan color.
I do my own oil changes so yes correct fluids & amount.
It just seems strange to me that the bike would be that low,my 04 classic with 75 k
requires very little if any in 4k.
So now what?

it could be an exhaust valve seal or a worn guide the only way to make sure is to pull the exhaust off and give a looksee and see if shows signs of oil running down the valve stems

Some 05's were known to have the wrong valve guide seals installed and that repair(which involved pulling heads) the MOCO covered. The plugs usually tell the story and if yours are tan and dry, have to look else where. Pull your derby cover with the bike upright and see if the oil is at the bottom of the clutch. If oil pours out, the crank seal behind the stator may be leaking into the primary case. If your okay with the primary level then you're just may have to pull your exhuast and look for oil residue.
