Default Fuel Tank Filter

My 97 Dana WG has low milage and has been setting for a while (more than a year). Of course now it won't start, it will try to start if I spray fluid into the carb. I drained the tank and put new fuel in but that didn't fix it. I'm thinking I neen to clean or change the filter in the tank. My question is; how do I do that, do I need to remove the tank? Also does anyone have any other ideas overall. I going to put in new plugs, and hope I don't need to take apart the carb.

More likely that the carb is gummed up with old gas - left to sit in there the idle and starting circuits become plugged.

It could be whole lot of things, but a guy has to start somewhere.
First thing I'd say is get a service manual specific to your bike, that would be a good start.

If you have the manual or access to the manual it'll show you how to change the fuel filter ...

I was thinking the carb'd bikes fuel filter was in-line ... vice being in the tank ... I know the EFI bikes' fuel filter is in the tank (in the fuel pump housing) ....

I would lean toward the possibility of the carb / jets being gummed ....

I have lots of friends who are bringing me their bikes because they have been sitting. First thing I do is get rid of the old gas. Pull the tank, all filters, etc. clean or replace, and go through the carbs or FI system. Clean, replace, etc. Then new gas, charge the battery, and start. Get the bike running for a few minutes and then do fluid changes. Bike is ready to go.
