Default forward control help

Hi, I just purchased my first Harley last week. 2007 low rider. I purchased the forward control kit thinking I could install it myself. This evening I started and once I had the outer primary cover off, I was lost. I do not have the technical manual they reference in the directions. I am thinking of just letting the dealer install them. How much effort is it to remove the inner primary. Would someone have the directions for that? Any opinions?

You do not need to take off the primary to install forwards. The only reason the primary is supposed to come off is to remove the old shift shaft/lever. These can be left on. Please do a search on these Dyna forums and you'll find everything you need to know - with pictures. My 06 forwards were self-installed leaving the original shift shaft. PM me if you need help, but, please search this particular forum first.

I highly recommend a manual, regardless.

Another alternative would be cut the shaft
on the shifter.

also you could return the 06 kit for the 05 kit , it comes with parts to cap and hold the old shift lever

I installed a set from an 05 Wide Glide I bought from a guy on this froum, yes you can leave the old transmission shift lever on with no problems, I used a small air reciprocating saw to get in behind the inner primary to cut the old shift shaft off, total install time less than 1 hour, you can remove this and then just plug the outside hole for looks, the shaft does not run in oil. In my opinion, it was not worth the extra work to completley remove the inner primary just for a slightly longer trans shift lever.
