Hey guys...thought I knew what I wanted, so I called Mustang today to place an order on a Vintage Solo seat but got recommended by the sales person to get a Wide Touring Solo instead. So I started questioning my decision and ended up hanging up and saying I needed to look into things a little more first.

I'm 6'3" and fairly thin for my height (185 lb). I have a 32-34 inch waist. So my question is, does anyone think the Vintage Solo would be as comfortable as the Wide Tour, or at least comfortable enough? Or is there a huge difference between the two? Can I comfortably get away with riding a couple hundred miles on a Vintage Solo? I'd like to hear owners of both chime in please.

I have one of the wide ones. Rode it for a week and then hung it up in the garage. It was too soft and squiggly for me. I found a used Corbin Classic Solo that I think will arrive tomorrow. My favorite seat is the Corbin Dual Tour I have, like it better than the stock seat (hanging in my garage now) and I bet I prefer the Corbin to the Mustang, just got used to that firm, solid perch a Corbin gives. Wanted a solo seat for a change of pace and daily use, to save wear on my Dual Tour, thought the Mustang might be it due to all the wild raves, but the Mustang set me a little lower and it was hard to get my back straight, and it didn't give me enough support, I felt I was sinking in. Was comfortable as far as bumps go, and my butt didn't burn, but I didn't feel "comfortable" in the position and with the sort of springiness I felt.

If you're interested in the Mustang and are used to solo seats, I think that the Wide may be too wide and deep for you. I'm nearly 6 foot and 230 pounds, and I think that the Wide may be too wide and deep for ME.

If you do decide on the Wide, I've got a barely used one. . .

 

I think it's difficult to discuss seats. I do know that if you buy the seat from Mustang they give you 30 days to try it out, return it if you don't like it. Not sure if any other mfg's offer similar plans.

 

It would be nice to find someone who makes solo seats with a high back, built in to the seat pan itself. A one piece set up and not with a detachable backrest.

 

Yeah...it can be tough to discuss seats. But I find the feedback to be rather helpful...and I think it will help me to make a more informed decision.

 

Ok. I have the vintage solo. Have had it on about a year now. It felt great up until a month ago. I was riding to/from Tail of the Dragon (260+ miles one way) and my right butt cheek/upper thigh were just killing me. I can't say it was the seat and I can't say it wasn't. I'm 6'1" 230# +/-

 

I have a new standard Mustang solo with thin pad sitting in my living room that just arrived today. I also have the wide studded solo, rear studded thin pad and the matching sissy bar pad with studs available for sale. I am 5'11 with 31" waist and 165 lbs. I am going to decide which one works best and sell the other set. PM if interested.

 

Update: This tid-bit of info proved to be rather helpful. I ended up calling the sales dept and Ami was very helpful in assisting me with my wants. Turns out I'm going to get the Standard Vintage Solo and passanger pad shipped out today. And if one of those seats doesn't work for whatever reason for either the wife or myself (kind of thinking the wife though) then we're going to return that part for the wide version of it.

FYI for those who don't know: If you're ordering a wide or a standard solo from mustang, the rear seats are interchangeable. Meaning, if I keep my standard Vintage Solo up front, my wife can go with the wide rear still. They're interchangeable. This was good news for me...because I have a feeling that's how it's going to pan out for us.

So yeah, A+ for customer service. Ami's been assisting me for about a week on this.

My skinny *** was too big for the standard 13.5 solo. The 13.5 solo is basically a 11" width that has extra side cushioning that curves around and up the sides that is not useful. Sent my back and got a 16.5 WIDE SOLO that is much better. Now I have 2 Wide solos and two 8" wide thin pillion seats, 1 plain and 1 studded with conchos. Going to keep the plain and sell the studded set.
