ok got front controls on my 05 fxdci.. want to remove shifter shaft so I can put a solid cover on.. whats needed and how hard of a job is it..

Besides removing the primary, I took a NEW hacksaw blade and cut the shifter behind the primary; then it falls right out. Took a while, but it worked.

 

thought of that.. if you cut it off behind the cover what supports whats left?

 

I just took the shifter rod and pushed it so it is flush with the primary case. The rod is just hanging there on the backside but a homemade aluminum bracket holds it out of the way. That way the nothing has to be taken apart and it has a nice neat, clean look. Let me know if you would like some pics.
