Yup,Beemer riders are weird birds. I have also ridden with the kinda guys that just have to have every detail planned and find it necessary to leave at 5 30 am and speed to the next fuel stop... I have more fun road trippin by myself, and the girls only reason for going is to make sure you dont have any fun FOR SURE.

I skip the hotels and just crash out on a patch of grass, or on a picnic table under a pavilion if it's raining.

If I ate at greasy spoons on my trip I'd definately need a change of underwear. I can't take the grease too well anymore.

I agree with most of what you posted. However, if you're still in the same clothes on the 3rd or 4th day, I think the only action you're getting is gonna have Harley teeth.

It's depressing - I could do this when I was younger but not anymore. On my last trip (solo) in July/August most of my days were in excess of 500 miles and at least 3 days were in excess of 600 mile days. The miles weren't an issue - but only because I got enough sleep. To get decent sleep anymore I find that hot showers and a mattress are pretty important (and even then sometimes sleep can be elusive). I thought a lot about this when I read Iron ***'s thread about the Hoka Hey Challenge he rode - one of the problems I'd face on that was trying to do the 13-16 hour days on 2-3 hours of sleep each night. A few days or so of that and I'd be a zombie...

But I thought your first list was pretty spot on in terms of lessons learned!

I am 38 now and not looking forward to the day when I can no longer sleep in a tent or just outside. It will drive me crazy. As of now it is still not a problem, but I can pretty much sleep anywhere at anytime.

I wish you would've posted this last week!

Lots of good tips. For next time.

Glad you had a good trip. As a RV owner who was held up by Harleys last weekend on curves, I'm not sure what to say about RV's not having a place on highways! Oh, yeah, I was held up by all types of vehicles as well. The Harleys in parade formation were the only motorcycles though.

Small town girls with gravely voices: They sound that way everytime they remove the Marlboro from their lips and open their pie hole to speak...
