i would try paintless dent removal but i highly doubt they could get a dent on the top of the tank... your other option that i just did yesterday for a customer is, use a heat gun to heat up the area then apply ice, it works but little by little to take a dent out last night about the size of a nickle i had to do it 11 times... but it worked!

i have also used a freezer... sounds wild but it works! if you gut a tank, then fill it 1/2 way with water, stick that in a freezer and let it freeze, NO CAP ON... then every 35 min or so add about 3 cups of water till it gets to your dent, the water will expand as it freezes and pop that sucker out!

I would take a spray can of compressed air, and turn it upside down and spray the dent. Then take something that produces pretty high heat quickly, and apply it to the frozen dent. It should pop out. Be sure to freeze the area around the dent as well. May take a few tries.
Make sure your tank is cool before spraying. I have taken out dents in car doors and atv tanks this way.

I had a 2" dent just on the curve of the tank behind the gas cap. I got it from the turn signal when I dropped the bike on its side during a slow speed turn into the driveway. Saw my son backing his car out after I had slowed and leaned into the turn. Next thing I knew I was on my knee with the bike on me.

I bought the dent puller where you melt the plastic puller to the dent and pull. It didn't work.
I called the Dent Doctor. He couldn't get it out and didn't charge me.
I tried the suction cups with no luck.
I tried the hair dryer with the CO2 with no luck.
I even tried dry ice and that didn't work.
I replaced the tank and that worked...

I still have the old tank. Someday I'll get it fixed and sell it. One idea I was contemplating was taking an aluminum walking cane and seeing if I could fit it inside the gas cap, inverting it and pushing it up against the dent to see if it would pop out. I never got around to trying it.

i disagree with that, i have pulled over 10 dents from harley tanks and countless form old metric restores without any problem. on the top of the tank that would drive me bonkers! i would have to try to fix it

Wow. Thanks everyone for all the advice. Some great ideas. I like the method of filling with water and freezing.
At the end of the day though, I think Im just gonna have to live with it until I get it painted. Then I can take it to a professional and let them deal with it.
Thanks again!
