Man, i understand all points of dont kill it, kill it, all that stuff. if your a farmer with chickens and eggs, kill it. It will steal you blind. As for me...Call me a chicken **** or not. i cannot stand snakes. I could care less if they are deadly or not. yeah and if you have to ask im scared of spiders even worse. My Dad is a lifelong farmer and so is the rest of my family, i was born and raised on the farm, and all of us have that phobia, you cant tell me its not genetic!

Made a dumb mistake back in 03 during my first trip to Iraq. me and my Lt were walking through the desert and saw a snake. It look pissed and in our way. Instead of shooting it we decided to bash it with a rock. Well we killed it after a few tries. It turned out it was a baby viper. Apparently a baby viper has enough concentrated venom it could kill you in an hour if bitten.....Wouldnt have killed it if it hadnt been in our way, but it was and wasnt moving!

Call me what you will, when it comes to snakes and spiders, i dont go hunting them, but if they are in my way and i cant go around, Ill do what i gotta do........and wonder what kind it is later!!!!!

Before any of you starts calling PETA on me. I have 4 rescued dogs and 2 rescued cats. And donate regularly to shelters!

Well, for anyone wondering, The snake was captured and relocated to a vacant lot. Hopefully is finding his place in nature eco system. and away from front porches.

I do not mind snakes at all, even those that are poisonous. I do not like killing animals unless I have a good reason to, so I usually just leave snakes alone. But, sometimes they have to go. My grandmother found a Copperhead just under the edge of her deck one day, well really her Yorkshire terror did. She called me and I managed to catch the snake in a 5 gallon bucket and took it a pretty good distance back in the woods behind her house. Three days later it was back, so I went back over to try and catch it again. It seemed to remember me and was much more difficult to catch the second time. I managed to get it cornered but it lunged at me and bit my jeans. Freaked me out a little to say the least. So, I shot it with a 22 pistol. I hated to do it but I was not going to risk getting bit by the snake and it obviously knew all my tricks. At the time I did not even think about animal control or a pest removal service, I am not even sure they were around back then.

If not for the risk to my elderly grandmother and her dog I would have left it alone. Each situation is different, in this one there was no way I was taking a chance on it biting her or her dog as it may very well have killed them.

Good on you!
Glad you did not kill it, can't understand why the first thing people do is kill something they know nothing about.

I Used to go up in the hills and catch rattle snakes for the park service so they could collect venom for anti venom serum. $2-3 a pop, crazy when you are a kid, beat collecting bottles though.
Found a snake on the front steps once and the cat was teasing it, freaking baby rattler. Can believe it did not kill the cat and he lived to be about 13, animal control came and got it and said they would release back up in the foothills.

There wasn't a good reference in the photo to help determine size but I'd say depending on the size it was either a boot or seat panel snake.

You have not lived until you tangle with a Bushmaster... one of the most honeriest snakes God ever made. Back in the 80's my platoon was on a "LRP" in Central America (don't ask) and came accross a most aggressive bushy... sum-beatch saw us from 15' away and slithered TOWARDS US all aggressive.. in the end it losts it's head (literally), but even THAT was still snapping after an hour from departure!

Steve Irwin would not have approved, but then again I'm still alive... and he (sadly) ain't!
