Default engine light

Hi guys, new Harley owner here so you will have to excuse my ignorance. I've got a 2003 wide glide with 3500 miles on it. The bike seems to run great. Today I noticed after it had been running for 30 to 40 minutes the engine light came on and then went off. Stopped the bike checked the oil all seemed good. Started it a bit later same thing after about 30 or 40 minutes running time the light comes on then off then on... Any idea what would cause this? Does that check engine light do more than just oil pressure? Thanks

Yes it does more, you have thrown a code. Time for some quality time with the HD diagnostic tool.

I can't say on an '03, but I know on later models you can enter self diagnostics by cycling the ign and turn signal switches to display the codes stored. Procedure is in the electrical diagnostic manual.

Okay thanks guys, I'll try and find the link. I was worried something went wrong with the oil pump. Whatever code it is, it dosen't seem to affect it much, the bike seems to run great. This would definately be an engine issue correct? not something like a burnt flasher, or something similar? thanks

If you had aburnt flasher, your gauge will show a red key light on the right side of your gauge.
