Not trying to hijack the thread ...but I have been meaning to say this SCLH: You are one funny mother focker.

On topic - I second and third everyone who has suggested a service manual.

The reason I say remove the tank and because when I did mine during my cam install to reuse the pushrods, I tried just lifting the rear of the tank but I couldn't lift it enough to gain the proper clearance. The tank would hit the trees when tilted up.

You may want to invest in a service manual for that project though.

You will need to replace the rocker cover gaskets.

[edit] Why is the site thinking the poster's name is a bad word. "j o r d a n". That's funny.

as for pulling the rockers...does anyone know if the OP is just looking to PC the tops? or if he wants to powder the complete rocker assembly?

the top rockers are just a few bolts and pull them off...

bottoms are a bit more involved.
It is flagging J##dan because of the spammers who post with shoe sale links. They are very bad, very determined.

To the OP, you have to take your rocker arms off, then the long small allen head bolts.

I just did my 883 on my 99 Sporty, and it was the first time I had ever been into the motor at all on mine.

Took my time, had no problems at all. I did read through the manual, but to be honest, it is a simple tear-down.

You already have the hard part, getting the top cover off of the rear cylinder. No clearance to play with there.

Good luck, you can handle it.
