DIY satin black respray photoshoot
a couple of weeks ago i posted pics of my newly resprayed lowrider, done with 4 cans of simoniz satin black tough spray paint, which i bought a pack of 6 for £23 from ebay. its been tested to the limit, ive done 600 miles since then, spilled petrol all over the tank, and washed the bike about 4 times since then. its been out in the rain, wind, mud and got bugs splatted all over it on the motorway, and its still holding up just like a pro job. ive only posted photos of it in the rain last time as it hasnt stopped beating down, but i had a nice day today so had chance to shoot a few photos. I also didnt have the saddlebags on it today. And ive come to a decision not to put tank badges on, its cleaner like it is.
what do you think?

I had my road king sprayed stain black with ~real~ automotive paint. What a $600 disappointment! My knees wore shiny spots on the tank almost immediately. Gas puked on it once and it was stained white.
I was so frustrated, I rattle-canned it in my garage. I simply pulled the dash and masked off everything else. That was 2 months ago and it still looks fine. Nobody knows I sprayed unless I tell them.
Your bike looks great. If I had to do it over again I would spray it all in my garage.

i took the instruments off, removed the petrol tap and fuel pipe (from left to right side of tank), disconnected the fuel gauge connector, then took off the tank. then i took off the petrol cap and the chrome ring underneath, and plugged the hole with a rag, then pulled out the fuel gauge so i could disconnect the 2 connectors underneath, leaving the wire through to the bottom. take off the net shroud thats over the the wire coming out the bottom of the tank, snip off the connector leaving about an inch of wire on it, then push the whole wire out of the top, pulling gently on the fuel gauge, and the whole assembly comes out.
i just resoldered and heat shrunk the connector on when i was done, easier than removing the pins.
