Default Steering Damper

I can see where you have it mounted to the frame but where does the other end attach ? Usually it is from the frame to the fork legs but your doesn't look like it is mounted like that.

Default should not need steering damper

Because of the relaxed steering geometry (large amount of trail) on a HD you should NEVER get head shake on a mechanically sound bike and there should not be any advantage to a steering damper. If you are getting head shake without the damper more than likely you either have loose or worn steering head bearings.

Steering dampers are designed to work on sport bikes that have a ridgid frame, the HD does not, and minimal trail with near vertical forks.

Come ride the back roads I ride at even the moderate pace I ride them and you'll experience your own. I have the same damper Joe had and it has helped the situation.
