Not a stupid question at all you just want to ensure you do it correct. Remove one of the OEM bolts (so you dont leave your bars dangling), take it to hardware store with the nut (so you can thread your new bolt with it to ensure its the same thread pattern and size), get 2 grade 8 bolts 2 inches longer than the OEM ones, two new lock washers, and reinstall with spacers.

Stock bolts are 1/2-13 x 2 3/4" (grade 5) just add 2". When I bought mine the closest they had was 1/2-13 x 5" (grade 8) which worked just fine for me!

Looks good. At 5'9" I have no issues with mine but that mod does look good.

I'm 5' 9" too and they helped me out a ton. Put them on after seeing this thread. They work great. Easy to install.

You are the man, now I can get this done today or tomorrow. My car is down for the time being, so I pretty much only have my scoot while my wife has our other car. If I remove one of the bolts I couldn't ride it to the home depot

thnx again

At a traffic light today I saw a Fat Bob with 2" spacers. Maybe it was because the guy had no bag on the bars or whatever but I did not like the looks of it in person.
